JAMYANG PROJECT FOR SPITI
Why This Project Matters
Cultural Preservation : Tibetan Buddhist heritage and values are at risk without active transmission to the next generation.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama urges the Himalayan regions to preserve Buddhism philosophy, calling it a precious gem and
a core symbol of their identity. This responsibility belongs to both monastics and lay people.
Spiti, strongly influenced by Tibetan Buddhism and home to many monasteries, embodies this heritage in daily life.
His Holiness’s fourth principal commitment is to revive ancient Indian wisdom, especially the Nalanda tradition, for the benefit of all humanity. In line with this guidance, Geshema Lobzang Chhodon is creating for us educational programs, workshops, and conferences to transmit Nalanda wisdom to the younger generations of Spiti Valley.
Youth Opportunities : Young people in remote villages have limited access to personal development and leadership training.
In today’s world, even traditional communities like Spiti face increased stress and uncertainty due to modern influences.
A growing concern is the rising trend of addiction—particularly alcohol use—among youth. This not only threatens their health
and well-being but also undermines the social, economic, and cultural fabric of the community.
Addressing these challenges is essential to safeguard the future of Spiti’s younger generation while forming compassionate
spiritual leaders.
Bringing the Approach to French Youth : The experience and workshops designed for Spiti’s youth can also be adapted online
for young people in France, who often face similar challenges such as isolation, stress, loss of direction, violence and risky behaviors.
Offering these adapted programs would give French youth concrete tools to grow personally, develop leadership skills,
and reconnect with a sense of meaning and direction.
This approach is not only about supporting remote communities – it’s about creating a model of personal
and collective growth that can inspire and empower young people everywhere.
Situation of Women : Women in Spiti play a central role in family and community life, yet they face significant challenges.
The region’s isolation and harsh climate, combined with the absence of a fully equipped hospital, mean that elderly women and pregnant mothers often cannot access timely medical care. Many are unable to travel to distant cities such as Kullu, Manali or Chandigarh due to high costs and physical hardship. This lack of healthcare infrastructure leads to preventable health risks and complications.
Additionally, women have limited opportunities for higher education, vocational training, and participation in leadership roles, which restricts their economic independence and voice in decision-making. Empowering women through education, health support, and awareness programs is vital for the balanced development of Spiti.
Core Objectives of the Project :
• Provide quality spiritual education to Spiti’s youth.
• Develop accessible educational programs, seminars, plateform and workshops for both french and international youths
• Promote physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
• Advocate for gender equality in access to religious education and social recognition.
Key anticipated impacts include :
• Spiritual Awakening – Inspiring youth to seek deeper purpose beyond material success.
• Mental Health Improvement– Teaching tools for emotional resilience and inner calm.
• Compassionate Citizenship – Encouraging social harmony and collective responsibility.
• Empowerment of women in the society.
• Preserving and passing on the Himalayan Buddhist heritage to future generations.
Long-Term Impact :
The Jamyang Project envisions a transformation of the young generation, empowering them to live meaningful,
balanced lives grounded in wisdom and compassion.
If people said this workshop has benefited them. Then the Jamyang Project will continue to carry it continuously.

"Jamyang" is a Tibetan name, "gentle voice" or "Manjushri," the Bodhisattva of wisdom..
Our Nunnery name is Jamyang Choling. I received all these education at Jamyang Choling.
Therefore I choose this name for this Project. (Geshema Lobzang Chhodon)
At the heart of the Jamyang Project is the dedicated leadership of a Geshema – a highly respected female monastic scholar
who has committed herself to the upliftment of the youth. Her mission is not just to teach Buddhist philosophy,
but to offer a living example of how to embody these teachings in daily life. Through her guidance, the project will act
as a conscious campaign on how to live life meaningfully by placing value on wisdom, ethics, and compassion.
